Sean Klein

Retirement Research
Mr. Klein is an executive vice president on the client management team in the Newport Beach office and heads retirement research at PIMCO. He has conducted commissioned research for the U.S. government and for the Society of Actuaries, and has published research on household retirement savings behavior, investing in private assets, behavioral economics, and the use of neural networks in financial risk modeling. Prior to rejoining PIMCO in 2019, he was head of wholesale stress testing at MUFG Union Bank. Earlier in his career, he headed empirical model development and special consulting services at Kamakura Corporation. Mr. Klein also teaches financial econometrics at the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. He has 13 years of investment and financial services experience and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
